X vs X: Battle of the flagship smartphones

-

ACOUPLE of days ago, OPPO launched its reworked version of the iPhone X and went as far as calling it the OPPO Find X, the smartphone that marks the Chinese brand’s return to the high- end market.

It’s not easy to compare other brands to iOS- powered iPhone but OPPO is asking for it not just because they threw in the X there to name this latest flagship but also because the OPPO Find X is expensive and dared to innovate by doing the following: Skipping the notch and giving the phone the unique option that lets you hide the camera, front and rear, when you’re not using the phone.

Find X is also slightly bigger with dimensions of 156.7 x 74.2 x 9.4 mm ( 186 grams) against iPhone X’s 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm. But OPPO’s new banner phone is not resistant to dust and water.

Going right down to the main event which is camera face- off, Find X’s dual rear camera features a primary 16MP sensor and a 20MP secondary sensor both higher that the iPhone X’s dual rear of 12MP sensors. For front camera comparisons, Find X boosts its selfie lens with 25MP compared to iPhone X’s 7MP.

With the OPPO Find X, the brand is leaving the selfie market though. There has to be greater purpose for MPs that high than taking selfies. Is there really a way to compare these devices – pun intended – apples to apples to apples?

According to Gearopen. com, “Both the Find X and the iPhone X are impressive devices that represent some of the best design and performance on the market. It isn’t always easy to draw a 1: 1 comparison due to the different architecture involved in designing the phones. While some may be tempted to claim that the OPPO Find X is much more powerful due to the extra RAM, the iOS operating system is extremely efficient and doesn’t need the same sort of power that an Android device would need to provide similar performance.”

Gearopen. com also pointed out that the most obvious difference is that Find X “prides itself with uninterrupted display” unlike the iPhone X which has the notch. This bumps the Find X ahead if you mind the notch. “OPPO Find X appears to have some of the best specifications we’ve ever seen with the cleanest designs and camera that surpasses the competition,” the review concluded.

Meanwhile, Mysmartprice. com summarized that OPPO wins the design battle but iPhone wins “balance of performance, premium design and software updates that will come for years.”

For OPPO to invade that price space usually reserved to Apple or Samsung, it will make you think if you’ll really bet all that cash to make this your primary and/ or only phone. Plus, the fact that iPhone is poised to launch three new devices by September, it’s just a matter of time before Apple dethrones whatever advantage its new rival came up with.
