Estrada congratulates new graduates of the city’s livelihood project
MANILA Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada congratulated the 1,013 new graduates of various courses offered by the city government to start their own businesses, a project under the Manila Manpower Development Center ( MMDC).
Estrada also expressed his admirations for the new graduates of Baking, Beauty Care, Bed Sheet & Pillow Case Making, Cooking and Food Processing, Curtain Making, Food and Beverage, Hotel and Restaurant Services, Housekeeping, Massage Therapy, Throw Pillow Making, and Unisex Haircutting who received their Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada hands out the certificate of completion to graduates of the project themed “Bata At Matanda, Alaga Sa Maynila,” intended to secure jobs for the city’s residents.
Manila, he said, has the highest rate of poverty incidence and the most number of jobless individuals.
The project has been made accessible to all, including children from poor families in the city. Graduates of the program can avail
of a P5,000 loan to start their own small businesses.
“I am so impressed that the participants, in spite of their age, promptly took up our offer for various courses at the Manila Manpower Development Center for 20
days,” he added.
“I salute them for their intention to improve their lives and give inspirations to the out of school youths being provided by the city government,” Mayor Estrada said.
“In short, it’s never too late to
learn something new,” Estrada said.
The city government has invested millions in modernizing its facilities and expanding its course offerings to keep abreast of prevailing trends in the workplace.
