Perlas Spikers foil Angels, gain PVL solo lead

-

BANKO- Perlas wore down PetroGazz in a duel of teams that played back- to- back games, hacking out a 25- 22, 25- 17, 22- 25, 25- 17 decision to wrest the early solo lead in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference at the Imus Sports Complex late Sunday.

The Perlas Spikers yielded the third set but battled back from 0- 7 deficit in the fourth behind Dzi Gervacio, Amy Ahomiro, Amanda Villanueva, Nicole Tiamzon and Joy Dacoron to secure their second straight win over the weekend.

BanKo-Perlas thumped Iriga-Navy, 25-14, 19-25, 25-17, 25-9, in Saturday’s opener of the season-ending conference of the league organized by Sports Vision and backed by Mikasa and Asics.

The Angels, who trounced the Tacloban Fighting Warays, 25-22, 25-14, 26-24, also Saturday, slipped to 1-1.

The Spikers piled up eight straight points to erase a 0- 7 deficit in the fourth with Gervacio, Ahomiro, Villanueva and Tiamzon combining in that big Perlas charge.

Two straight BanKo- Perlas miscues, however, put PetroGazz back in the lead but Tiamzon, Ahomiro and Villanueva struck anew with Dacoron joining the fray at the net to push the Spikers ahead, 14- 9, which they preserved to the finish.

Tiamzon hammered 16 kills, all on at- tacks, Villanueva came up with 10 kills, three blocks and two aces for a secondbest 15 points with 14 digs and six excellent receptions, Gervacio logged 14 points and the same number of digs, Dacoron wound up with three aces in her 10-point output and Ahomiro chipped in eight markers.

Paneng Mercado came up with nine points while Mary Mendrez, Marites Pablo, Rachel Austero and Jonah Sabete each chalked up eight for the Angels.
