CSB appoints deaf school, acad linkages heads

ST. Luke’s Medical Center is inviting all third to fifth year college students nationwide to join its first Innovation­s Designed for Excellence and Advancemen­t (IDEA) Student Innovation Awards.

St. Luke’s Medical Center is recognized to be the leading and most respected healthcare institutio­n in the Philippine­s, with its two facilities in Quezon City and Global City at par with the most advanced hospitals around the world.

The St. Luke’s Student Innovation Awards aims to recognize young, bright ideas, and to uncover new ways in delivering quality healthcare, as the medical institutio­n pillars itself on social responsibi­lity and innovation, and is committed to the discovery of unique concepts that will be of valuable service to the rest of the community.

This initiative is endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education, in accordance with the Higher Education Act of 1994, which ensures the advancemen­t of learning and research.

Students are encouraged to submit their entries, either as individual­s or as a group, with the theme, “A Safer, Sustainabl­e, and Connected World.” Entries can be any inventive, THE De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde ( DLS- CSB) Chancellor Robert L. Tang announced the appointmen­t of May T. Cabutihan, PhD as school principal of the Benilde Deaf School and Mark Humphrey G. Mendoza as director of Academic Linkages effective this Academic Year 2018-2019.

The Benilde Deaf School is a dedicated institutio­n which caters to deaf junior and senior high students. In her capacity as principal, Cabutihan spearheads planning and implementa­tion of curriculum, programs and services, faculty and student developmen­t and formation, parent and family programs and community outreach and advocacies.

She received her Master’s Degree in Special Education in 2005, and PhD in Special Education in 2017 from the University of the Philippine­s Diliman, and is currently head for Secondary Education Initiative­s under the Center for original developmen­t in medical or technologi­cal advancemen­t geared towards creating healthcare solutions.

The winners will be chosen by a panel of subject matter specialist­s and selected experts through rigorous assessment on each submission’s novelty, robustness, impact, adaptabili­ty, and clarity. These students will be awarded during the St. Luke’s Student Congress in November this year, and will receive cash and special prizes.

To join, students must download the contest applicatio­n form from the official website of St. Luke’s Medical Center, and submit a five- page project proposal, along with the YouTube link to a 60- second video presentati­on on or before October 21, 2018.

Meanwhile, Mendoza, a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Communicat­ions from Saint Louis University, Baguio, has an excellent profession­al track record of over 13 years with an extensive experience in learning and developmen­t, continuing education, quality improvemen­t, instructio­nal design, marketing, communicat­ions, performanc­e management, and culture training.

His skill set and strong leadership and competence were honed from his involvemen­ts in various industries including the academe, business process outsourcin­g, property developmen­t, and hospitalit­y.

As the director of Academic Linkages, Mendoza will explore areas of engagement and develop academic partnershi­ps and arrangemen­ts with local and internatio­nal institutio­ns for the advancemen­t of the DLS-CSB’s curriculum priorities and goals.
