Beyond the Boardroom

- MARGIE LOGARTA

SINCE May 19, 2017, BoardroomWatch has clocked in 72 conversations with the Philippines’ top business minds, movers and mavericks.

It’s a list that has included Jaime J. Bautista of Philippine Airlines, Edgar “Injap” Sia 2ndof DoubleDragon Properties, Josie Natori of The Natori Company, Dennis Uy of Udenna, Jose E. B. Antonio of Century Properties, Aurelio Montinola 3rd, formerly of BPI and now FEU, Johnlu Koa of The French Baker, Brian Cu of Grab Philippines, Choong Wai Hong of Maybank, Boy and King Reyno of Manila Jockey Club, Olivia Limpe-Aw of Destileria Limtuaco, Vicente Ontengco of Motortrade, Jose Mari Chan of Biscom, Robert Yupangco of the Yupangco Group of Companies, Alfonso Salcedo of Security Bank, Victorio Valledor, Glenn Yu of SEAOIL Philippines and Joey Concepcion of Go Negosyo to name a few.

We even managed two-part features on legendary taipans, Henry Sy and Dr. George Ty, however, sadly without being able, for various reasons, to pin them down in a face-to-face session. Nevertheless, these turned out to interesting, if not highly challenging, assignments, culling insights from family, friends and scholars to create a composite picture of two giant captains of industry. In the future, we hope to do more such portraits of the notoriously elusive, who shun the limelight

With TheManilaTimes marking an important milestone, BoardroomWatch is seizing the opportunity to spin off with a new section called Keep in View (KIV).

As the title connotes, we will be featuring next-generation business leaders, the tycoons of tomorrow. While there are sure to be “sons and daughters of the owners,” we also plan to include innovators, disruptors and the plain ambitious and risk ready. The future belongs to the young, they say, and The Manila Times aims to travel alongside them as they undertake the journey of enterprise and self realization.
