COTABATO CITY: Four minors in three towns in South Cotabato fell victims to violent crimes right after the country observed Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The victims include two young girls who were stabbed dead by their nanny’s boyfriend in Surallah town; a 4-year-old girl, who was raped then killed by her 16-year-old stepbrother in Polomolok; and another girl, 7, was allegedly raped and about to be killed but escaped in T’boli town, all in South Cotabato.

Supt. Jose Marie Simangan, Polomolok police chief, said on Saturday that the young suspect, after the sexual assault, strangled the victim, placed her in a sack then threw it in a river nearby.

But Simangan withheld victim and the suspect’s identities and the location of the village where the heinous crime was perpetrated.

He said the victim’s mother looked for the girl upon coming home and the suspect even helped her look for the missing kid.

Simangan said the suspect, an out- of- school youth, also accompanied his mother to the police station to report about the missing girl.

Apparently bothered by his conscience, Simangan said, the brother later admitted to the crime.

took custody of the suspect.

Similarly, in T’boli, police arrested Baldwin Balonto, 22, who allegedly sexually assaulted a 7-year-old girl on Thursday.

Chief Insp. Ramil Villagracia, T’boli police chief, said Balonto tried to strangle the girl but a neighbor yelled at him giving the girl a chance to run away.

Balonto also admitted to the crime, telling the police he was under the influence of liquor when he committed the act.

On Wednesday morning, pedicab driver George Judilla, 47, went to the house where his girlfriend, Ellen Labatos, 27, worked as a nanny for two daughters of a Pastor- teacher couple in Barangay Libertad, Surallah to confront her.

Supt. Aldrin Gonzales, spokesman for Police Regional Of-

Labatos told him she wants to end their relationship.

The suspect pulled a kitchen knife and lunged at Labatos but missed. The woman then ran outside the house and asked their neighbor for help.

Labatos told police Judilla grabbed 10- month- old Cherries Joy Pamplona from the hammock and stabbed her four times and then took Jiana Grace, 4, from the room and stabbed her in the back.

The neighbors rushed the children to a nearby hospital but they died while undergoing treatment.

Judilla later attempted to commit suicide by stabbing his chest and abdomen. Police said he died while being transported to the provincial hospital in Koronadal City.
