ZAMBO BUSI­NESS­WOMAN KILLED, HUS­BAND WOUNDED IN AM­BUSH

ZAM­BOANGA CITY: A prom­i­nent busi­ness­woman was killed while her hus­band was crit­i­cally wounded in an am­bush staged by two as­sailants rid­ing a mo­tor­cy­cle on Fri­day af­ter­noon at the coastal ur­ban vil­lage of Suter­ville this city, po­lice said. A re­port re­ceived by Se­nior Supt. Thomas Joseph Mar­tir, Zam­boanga City Po­lice chief, iden­ti­fied the fa­tal­ity as Riyana Yu­sop, 43, a known fish trader, and her hus­band Mar­juni Yu­sop, 48. Chief Insp. Ra­mon Bautista, com­man­der of Si­n­unuc Po­lice Sta­tion, said the vic­tims were on­board their mo­tor­cy­cle driven by Mar­juni bound for home when the as­sailants chased them on a down­ward sharp curve. When the per­pe­tra­tors caught up with the vic­tims, the back-rid­ing gun­man fired sev­eral times at the cou­ple hit­ting Riyana on the head and right shoul­der while Mar­juni sus­tained sev­eral gun­shot wounds. Riyana died in­stantly from fa­tal gun­shot wounds. Mar­juni was rushed to a pri­vate hos­pi­tal where at­tend­ing physi­cians gave him a 50-50 chance to sur­vive. Bautista said in­ves­ti­ga­tors re­cov­ered 14 spent shells of cal­iber .45 pis­tol in the am­bush area. Ini­tial po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tion sug­gests
