‘ SAMUEL’ ENTERS PAR, BRINGS RAINS TO CARAGA, COMPOSTELA

TROPICAL Depression Samuel entered the Philippine Area of Responsibi­lity (PAR) at about 10 a.m. on Sunday. Its center was estimated at 980 kilometers East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph, moving west southwest at 15 kph. It will move over east southeast of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte on Tuesday. By Wednesday morning it will be about 40 kilometers (km) west southwest of Iloilo City, and on Thursday morning will be about 330 km northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. Samuel will be outside of PAR by Friday morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheri­c, Geophysica­l and Astronomic­al Services Administra­tion. Moderate to heavy rains which may trigger flooding and landslides may prevail over Caraga Region, Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley beginning this Monday.

BACOLOD CITY: The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office seized P2.4 million worth of shabu, several guns and ammunition­s during “one-time big-time” anti- drug operations in Dumaguete City and nearby Sibulan town on Friday. The biggest haul — P1.18 million — was recovered from Nochelyn Cuizon in Barangay Bolocboloc. Earlier, her live-in partner, Chad Lucero, was caught with 100 grams of shabu, an electric sealer used to repack the illegal drug, cash and drug parapherna­lia. Chief Insp. Abel Laborte, Regional Special Operations Group chief, said they also arrested Kent Barneg Dicen and a minor, in a buy-bust in Barangay Junob, Dumaguete, and seized packs of shabu estimated at P236,000.
