Austria celebrates National Day in Manila

REPUBLIC of Austria Ambassador to the Philippine­s Bita Rasoulian hosted a reception in celebratio­n of the National Day which commemorat­es the adoption in 1955 of Austria’s constituti­onal law on permanent neutrality and the centenary of the Republic of Austria and the Viennese Modernism on October 25.

The event which took place in Makati Shangri-La presented an idyllic venue to further uphold the Austrian Presidency for the Council of the European Union for the year 2018.

This year, Austria also celebrates the 100th anniversar­y of its famous artists like Schiele, Wagner, Klimt, Moser who made

arts and culture in Austria. It was highlighte­d at the national day reception with an enormous printing of Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss” and a photowall where the guests were invited to take photos of their individual version of the famous painting for a chance to win two round tickets to Vienna.

The guests had the chance to experience a taste of Austria through the musical performanc­es by the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra, who won First Prize in the String Category at the 12th Summa Cum Laude Internatio­nal Music Festival in Vienna, and Soprano singer Lara Maigue, with a traditiona­l Viennese waltz presented by the Top Athletes of the Dancesport Council of the Philippine­s-featuring the music of Austrian composer Johann Strauss 2nd.

The Austrian Ambassador emphasized the Austrian-Philippine relations in her welcome speech stating the strong person-to-person ties between the two nations. ‘’ We are ready to bring in our
