Marikina footwear industry gets boost
THE Marikina City government gave a boost to the city’s shoe industry by promoting the footwear industry, which experienced a decline in sales and production in the past few years.
Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said the city government has provided all kinds of support to shoe manufacturers and shoe factories to give the city’s footwear industry the needed boost.
“They [shoemakers] are now
no longer complaining about lower sales,” Teodoro said in an interview over the weekend.
According to the “2017 Sapatos Fest Comparative Sales Report,” the shoe industry posted 5 percent growth sales in 2016. This increased to 36 percent in 2017.
“The sales has increased. There’s really a market here. We have a lot of wholesale buyers from other cities who buy shoes, leather bags, slippers, wallets, and other leather goods,” Teodoro said.
