China to suspend tariffs

scope of their agreement, Beijing has recently begun to act on claims

as to what steps China would take.

“We hope that both sides will, in accordance with the consensus reached by the two heads of state, on the premise of mutual respect, mutual equality, faithfulness, words and actions, and intensify consultations in the direction of cancelling all of the extra tariff

statement said.

Confusion and unease over what agreement the two sides reached in Argentina has roiled stock markets.

Huawei case

- cial officer, Meng Wanzhou, in Vancouver on December 1 has also angered China, raising concerns that her case could affect the trade negotiations.

Meng, who faces US fraud charges related to Iran sanctions violations, was granted Can$10 million (US$ 7.5 million) on Tuesday.

Two Canadians were detained in China on Monday in what many experts say was retaliation for Canada’s arrest of Meng.

But the tangible move by China to suspend tariffs on cars and auto

options, like bus rapid transit, urban rail, sidewalks or bicycle lanes. When car users who are buses or trains moving faster, many will consider shifting to public transport. As more car users shift to public transport, the congestion in our cities will be eased. In the words of Enrique Penalosa, “An advanced city is not one where even the poor use cars, but rather one where even

The requirements of the elderly and persons with disability should be incorporated in the planning of every transport service and facility. In a just society, we need to address the needs of all citizens, especially the most vulnerable. By planning our transport services and facilities for persons with disability, we ensure that the services and facilities are accessible for all of us.

Despite the legal obligation of national and local governments to make all public facilities and transport services accessible to persons with disability (under Batas Pambansa 344 An Act to Enhance the Mobility of Disabled Persons and under the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability), there is very little compliance in practice.

Anyone who cannot climb parts, as announced by Trump on Twitter shortly after the meeting, is a sign that trade negotiations remain on track.

China on Thursday said that it would welcome US negotiators to visit the country for talks as both sides focus on a solution to thorny trade issues.

Maintaining and resolving the trade truce could help stabilise sentiment in China, where con-

stairs is excluded from using buses and jeepneys that have steps to enter the vehicle; sidewalks and buildings are constructed without proper ramps; terminals and ports operate without toilet facilities for persons with disability. One does not have to is to move around, especially if you are blind or in a wheelchair. This negligence and insensitivity to the needs of persons with disability should be corrected as soon as possible.

Despite our severely constrained mobility, there has been hardly any sound from commuters to demand better and to assert their needs. Have Filipinos just resigned themselves to the low quality of services, the absence of standards, and the continuing deterioration of our urban environment?

This needs to be remedied and it begins with each one of us. Unless we elect leaders who champion inclusive and sustainable transport solutions, we are doomed to suffer the worsening mobility.
