Former Subic village chief killed
SUBIC, Zambales: Two unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle shot dead a former (village) chairman of this town and wounded his companion on Saturday night in Barangay Calapandayan.
Rogelio Cabral, 67, former chairman of Barangay Asinan-Poblacion, was headed south on board his motorcycle with his companion Daisy Rose Beato, 46, when the gunmen, also on a motorcycle, drove closer and shot Cabral several times. Beato was hit in the left arm.
Cabral and Beato were rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Olongapo City, but Cabral was declared dead on arrival. heading south.
Police are now investigating the motive for the killing.
In a radio interview after the shooting, Subic Mayor Jay Khonghun, who is now eyeing the vice gubernatorial post in the province, expressed sadness at Cabral’s killing.
Investigators recovered four cartridge cases and a bullet slug at the scene of the crime. The police also set up checkpoints in Olongapo.
In November last year, two municipal councilors of this town were also ambushed while traveling in San Narciso town, but they survived the attack.
