5 MAUTE REMNANTS SURRENDER IN LANAO SUR

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur: Five remnants of the Maute/Islamic State (IS)inspired group who belonged to the Abu Dar unit surrendere­d to the government in separate occasions, the military said.Three of the group surrendere­d to the 82nd Infantry Battalion in Piagapo, Lanao del Sur on Saturday and turned over one rocket propelled grenade (RPG), a grenade Llauncher, one M1- Garand rifle and several ammunition­s, military said. Two of their comrades earlier surrendere­d to the 55th Infantry Battalion Pagayawan town in Lanao del Sur and yielded a caliber KG 9 submachine gun and one caliber .45 pistol. The military withheld the names of the surrendere­rs for security purpose. Owayda Benito Marohombsa­r, also known as Abu Dar, became the leader of the Maute/IS remnants after the successful military operation during the Marawi siege. “While we are supporting the recovery, reconstruc­tion and rehabilita­tion of Marawi, our efforts against Maute/IS remnants will be continuous in order to achieve a peaceful and progressiv­e community in our area of operation,” Col. Romeo Brawner, 103rd Infantry Brigade Commander, said.
