DECK cadet Kristoffer Galorio disappeared and his case remained a mystery for the shipping line he had worked for.

“No words can bring back a son, a ca

On Dec. 28, 2018, BW was alerted about a missing deck cadet of BW Oak.

The BW Oak ship is a 2008-built

one of the leading shipping companies in gas tanker.

BW said, upon receipt of the information on Galorio’s disappearance, a search at sea commenced immediately, which involved three vessels and a C-130 aircraft under the guidance of Honolulu Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC).

The search was unsuccessful and was called off after 40 hours upon guidance from the Honolulu MRCC.

All relevant authorities were also

investigations were conducted by authorities from Isle of Man, the Japanese Coast Guard and an internal investigation team from BW on Cadet Galorio’s disappearance.

To date, external investigations by authorities from the Isle of Man were still ongoing.

The BW’s internal investigations were led by the head of Global Manning and Global head of Fleet Security.

A thorough and full internal investigation indicated that the

- det Galorio’s training regime was all in line with the high standards expected of BW crews.

The report said the relationship between officers and crew and Cadet Galorio were also placed under close scrutiny.

“The crews of the BW Oak ship were good people, and it is our belief that they acted in the best interest of the cadet while on board the ship. And like all of us at BW, we remained deeply shocked by the tragic turn of events,” the company said.

BW expressed concern over the missing deck cadet case and had emphasized its commitment to be transparent and would share information to all to prevent similar incident in the future.

“The company is deeply concerned about the lost of a young man, who was given to our care. BW offers its heartfelt sympathies to cadet Galorio’s family and friends,” the shipping company said in a statement.
