NATIONAL coach Yeng Guiao called on overseas Filipino workers in Qatar to show their support for the Philippine team when it plays against the Qataris in Doha on February 21, in the sixth and last window of the International
“What we are anticipating is that they will be playing in their home court, they will be more familiar with their surroundings,” Guiao told reporters after the team’s tune-up game with Meralco on Friday morning. “But the positive thing is there are lots of Filipinos in the Middle East, particularly in Qatar.”
The nationals beat Meralco, 100- 82, behind Pogoy’s 21 points and Lassiter’s 14 points. It was Gilas’ only tune-up game before facing Qatar.
“We’re hoping they will back us up and they will give us some of their energy by cheering for us. I hope our fellow Filipinos there will pray for us. Everything we do is for them,” added Guiao.

Papa stressed that the event is open to all Filipino swimmers.
“Again, we want to emphasize that our competition is open to all. We are not requiring a membership, just to be part of the team for our international competitions. As long as you meet the standards and you are willing to represent our country, you are in,” Papa said.
Seeing action in the tournament are Male Swimmer of the Year Marc Bryan Dula of Masville Elementary School Parañaque and Christian Trump Luistro of Hope Christian SchoolLegazpi – both are preparing for the 2019 Palarong Pambansa qualifying tournament.
Dula is part of the Parañaque Swimming Team slated to compete in the Palarong Pambansa National Capital Region Athletic Meet while Luistro banners the Legazpi City Swimming Team in the Palarong Pambansa Bicol Region Athletic Meet.
