According to the Journalism Ethics found on the EthicNet website of Belarus, “The present Code shall set a very high standard of ethical and profession­al behavior for people involved in searching, receiving, keeping, distributi­ng and commenting on informatio­n in the mass media.

“Mass media freedom is one of the major guarantees of the freedom of speech, an obligatory element for ensuring other civil rights and freedoms,” it says.

“The journalist must defend the freedom of speech, retain independen­ce of his or her political views and conviction­s. He/ she must resist any efforts to distort informatio­n or introduce censorship. However, in his/ her profession­al activity, he/ she should remain neutral and objective.”
