DUTERTE OKS LAW TO CREATE PHILIPPINE TRAINING CENTER

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law establishi­ng the Philippine Sports Training Center (PTSC) which will be the official home and primary venue of the developmen­t of athletes included in the country’s national teams.

Duterte signed Republic Act no. 11214, or the PTSC Act, on February 14, copies of which were given five days after.

The state of the art training center will also contribute to sports science and research as the national sports training institutio­n.

It will have a funding of P3.5 billion, included in the annual General Appropriat­ions Act.

Other amount necessary for other provisions of the act, including the maintenanc­e, operation and management of the PSTC will be included in the budget of the PSC.

It will be assisted by the

Under the measure, the center will be built within a year and a half, after six months of planning.

The center will include sports facilities and amenities for at least 30 Olympic and non-Olympics sports - aquatics, archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiard and snookers, BMX and cycling, bowling, boxing, chess, dancesport, fencing, floorball, football, futsal, handball, gymnastics and jiu-jitsu.

It will also house judo, karatedo, lawn tennis, muay thai, pencak silat, petanque, rugby, sambo, shooting, softball, soft tenni, squash, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon, volleyball, weightlift­ing, wrestling and wushu.

The PSC will have the authority to manage and operate the center, including the administra­tion of incidental income, security of the complex, assignment of personnel and hiring of managers and other aut horities, as long as they are profession­al and highly skilled managers, with long and vast experience in sports administra­tion.

The Implementi­ng Rules and Regulation­s will also be crafted by the PSC, in consultati­on with the Department­s of Public Works and Highways and the Budget and Management.

The law is a consolidat­ion of House BIll no. 5615 and Senate BIll no. 1716, which were passed on December 10, 2018 and December 6, 2018 respective­ly.
