Tolentino, Madayag shine as Lady Eagles defang Tigresses

VETERANS Kat Tolentino and Maddie Madayag shone as Ateneo De Manila University scored a 25-21, 25-18, 16-25, 25-22 bounce-back win over University of Sto. Tomas (UST) in Season 81 University Athletic Associatio­n of the Philippine­s (UAAP) women’s volleyball on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

In the second game at press time, opening day winners University of the Philippine­s ( UP) and Far Eastern University ( FEU) are battling for the early lead.

Meanwhile, in men’s class, FEU grabbed the lead with their second straight win, a 25-13, 25-18, 23-25, 25-18 thumping of UP.

It was a fitting follow- up to the Tamaraws’ 25- 12, 25- 18, 25- 17 sweep of defending champion National University.

UST survived the hard- fighting Ateneo, 25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 19-25, 15-12, for a rebound victory.

The Tigers bounced back from a stinging 31- 33, 25- 23, 25- 16, 15- 25, 14- 16 defeat to Adamson University.
