TASER USED ON DORMITORIO SURRENDERED TO POLICE

- BY DEMPSEY REYES

CADETS of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) also used a taser to torture Cdt. 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio, the Baguio City police said on Thursday.

Col. Allen Rae Co, Baguio City Police chief, said the device used to electrocute Dormitorio’s private parts was surrendered by one of the suspects. The police said it would be used as evidence against

the cadets who are being investigated for the death of Dormitorio.

Co said Dormitorio was tased after he was discharged from the PMA Station Hospital, where he was diagnosed with urinary tract infection.

Lt. Gen. Noel Clement, Armed Forces chief, said objects that could be used for initiating hazing rites were not allowed in the academy.

“In the past, we have actually been conducting what we call a ‘showdown inspection’ for probable equipment that will be used for maltreatment. So, the cadets will be obliged to give out all these equipment so we can prevent these cases,” he told reporters.

Clement on Thursday named Rear Adm. Allan Ferdinand Cusi and Brig. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. as PMA superintendent and commandant of the Cadet Corps., respectively. Cusi replaced Lt. Gen. Ronnie Evangelista, while Brawner succeeded Brig. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro; both resigned because of the hazing death of Dormitorio.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Nerio Za of the PMA Station Hospital.

Clement said Armed Forces of the Philippines Inspector General Lt. Gen. Antonio Ramon Lim had started his own investigation on the maltreatment cases at the academy.
