ARADIO broadcaster was gunned down in Dumaguete City on Thursday, police reported.
A police report said Dindo Generoso of dyEM Bai Radio was on his way to work when he was attacked. Armed men on board a motorcycle peppered his car with bullets.
Generoso died on the spot. On October 30, radio broadcaster Benjie Abdul Caballero was severely wounded after he was gunned down in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat.
Another radio broadcaster, Pat Lucero Pacquiao, was also attacked in Davao del Norte but he survived.
Malacañang condemned Generoso’s killing.
Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo said President Rodrigo Duterte ordered a “thorough” probe to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Citing a police report, Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) Executive Director
Joel Sy Egco said Generoso sustained eight gunshot wounds.
“This dastardly deed will not go unpunished. Whoever is behind this senseless murder will be brought to justice,” Egco said in a statement.
He said Generoso ran for mayor in May but lost.
“PTFoMS is on top of the situation and is closely coordinating with the Dumaguete City Police Station for follow-up investigation to pinpoint the motives of shooting incident,” Egco said.
“The Task Force presumes that any form of media violence is work- related, until further investigation proves otherwise,” he added.
Police are still determining the motive behind the killing.
Generoso was anchor of the program“K ons en ci as a Pro vinci a .”
He was a longtime block timer and spokesman of Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Ipe Remollo.
Based on the PTFoMS database, Egco said around 22 blocktimers have been killed since 2003.
“Blocktimers have been particularly vulnerable because of their involvement with politicians as a whole,” the PTFoMS chief said.
“The Task Force calls on our various media groups and stations, and all media practitioners to take a deeper look into the practice of blocktiming vis-à-vis its inherent dangers,” he added.
