Joma says Duterte ‘deluded with Fentanyl’

- DEMPSEY REYES

SELF-EXILED communist leader Jose Maria “Joma” Sison has again lambasted President Rodrigo Duterte over his renewed offer for communist rebels who will surrender to the government, saying the President was “deluded with Fentanyl.”

Fentanyl is a “powerful synthetic opioid analgesic that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent.”

During his speech in Malacañang on Thursday, Duterte reiterated his promise of housing and livelihood to members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who will surrender.

Duterte said the surrender of communist rebels could lead hasten the peace process.

Sison, who is based in The Netherlands, slammed Duterte for not being “interested in serious peace negotiations” between the government and National Democratic Front of the Philippines.

“Duterte is being deluded by Fentanyl and by false claims of his military officers when he boasts that he can make the Red commanders and fighters of the New People’s Army and other revolutionary forces of the people surrender with false promises of jobs, land and houses,” he said in a statement on Friday.

He added that Duterte had “no resources” at all to be able to make good on his promises for rebels who will surrender.

Sison also disputed government

claims that top NPA commanders were either being killed or were surrendering, noting that the number of rebels was instead “rapidly increasing.”

“They are rapidly increasing because of the escalation of oppression and exploitation,” the communist leader said.
