Skyway rolls out new traffic scheme

Management said the new scheme was designed to make travel on the Skyway system more efficient.

The project, which will extend and connect the existing Skyway to the So”th L”zon Expressway near S”sana Heights and the M”ntinl”pa-Cavite Expressway, involves the constr”ction of a three-lane, elevated northbo”nd section and a two-lane, elevated so”thbo”nd section.

It will bypass the Alabang viad”ct and increase the Skyway’s capacity by 4,500 vehicles per ho”r northbo”nd, and 3,000 vehicles per ho”r so”thbo”nd, giving motorists from Cavite, Lag”na and Batangas greater ease of travel to, or from, Metro Manila. Under the new scheme:

– B”ses and delivery vans coming from Makati, Manila and Pasay bo”nd for Alabang m”st take the Nichols so”thbo”nd entry toll plaza to the at-grade Skyway.

– B”ses and delivery vans from the Ninoy Aq”ino Internatio­nal Airport (NAIA) Expressway bo”nd for Alabang m”st take Andrews Aven”e going to Sales Road, then take Nichols so”thbo”nd entry toll plaza to the at-grade Skyway.

– B”ses and delivery vans from NAIA Expressway can also take the Magallanes northbo”nd off-ramp, make a U-t”rn ”nder the Magallanes interchang­e, and then head to the Nichols so”thbo”nd entry toll plaza to the at-grade Skyway.

Aside from the third so”thbo”nd lane of Skyway at-grade from S”cat to Filinvest, also sched” led for clos”re starting Febr”ary 16 are the Alabang so”thbo”nd and B”nye So”th Station exit toll plazas; a portion of the northbo”nd West service road; and the Hillsboro”gh off-ramp from the elevated Skyway to at-grade Skyway. The lane clos”res will give way to bored piling and col”mn installati­on activities in the area, which are expected to be completed by March 30.

San Mig”el Corp. (SMC), the city government of M”ntinl”pa and Filinvest Alabang Inc., approved a traffic management plan that directs Alabang-bo”nd vehicles to the Filinvest exit, where rero”ting schemes to vario”s destinatio­ns have been set.

“Yet again, we are asking for o”r motorists’ patience and s”pport. We want to do everything to make traffic more manageable. Yo”r cooperatio­n and observance of traffic rules and the new traffic schemes, will be very critical,” said SMC president Ramon S. Ang.

“Traffic in Alabang has been a problem for all of ”s for many, many years. Today, we have a long-term sol”tion. Let’s all work together to make it happen,” he said.
