DAVAO CITY: The city government of Davao has temporarily suspended the distribution of the coveted quarantine passes in the city after a chaotic first week of the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine.

“All barangay (village) captains are advised to halt their respective issuances of quarantine pass, food pass, work pass and all other passes to their constituent and wait for further instructions to avoid chaos and confusion,” said Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in her radio interview over DCDR 87.5.

The mayor reiterated the latest directive under Executive Order 20-A Guidelines should be followed to prevent the further spread of the novel coronavirus.

She also urged Dabawenyos to be honest about their travel and medical condition and history for their protection as well as for health workers who are putting their lives at risk.

Duterte- Carpio said doctors were concerned that some people under investigation were not telling the truth, thus exposing health workers to the virus.

“Ang success sa quarantine would depend sa compliance sa mga tao, nga nakasabot sila nga kinahanglan nato maputol ang pag spread sa disease. (The success of the quarantine would depend on the compliance of the people. That, they understand we need to prevent the spread of the disease,)” she said during her radio hour.

The Davao City government urged residents to stay at home, practice social distancing, and wash hands frequently with soap and water.

On March 19, local officials in Davao Region decided to suspend land, sea and air travel to Davao within 14 days as a preventive measure against the coronavirus.

Duterte- Carpio warned she would extend the lockdown if people still disobey the guidelines

“Angpag spread sa virus, depende If they follow, mapadaliangpag stop sa spread sa disease. Perokungdilina mabuhat, madugaygyudta. (The spread of the virus depends on the attitude of the people. If they follow, it would be easier to stop the spread of the disease. But if they don’t, it would really take us a long time),” she said.
