Makati delivers medicines to PWDS

- JAN ARCILLA

THE Makati City government has started delivering medicines as well as financial aid and food packs to persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Mayor Mar- Len Abigail “Abby” Binay said the home delivery of medicines, previously only for senior citizens aged 70 and older and bedridden residents, aimed to encourage residents to stay home and prevent the possible transmission of the novel coronavirus.

“We continue to think up ways to make essential needs accessible to ‘ Makatizens’ without them leaving the safety of their homes,” Binay said in a statement, adding that the modified distribution scheme will be in effect throughout the enhanced community quarantine period.

Under the modified distribution scheme, non-senior citizens who have medical prescriptions from barangay ( village) health centers only need to give the list of medicines to Makati Action Center (MAC) personnel in health centers and their medicines will be delivered to their homes.

Senior citizens who receive medicines every month should give their medical prescriptions to MAC personnel who will deliver three months’ supply of their maintenance medication to their homes.

Meanwhile, 13,181 registered PWD residents of Makati will receive P1,000 cash assistance and food packs from the city government.

The city also rolled out Makati Mart mobile stores on Monday to provide residents easier access to basic goods during the quarantine period.

Binay said the Makati Mart, which made its initial rounds in Barangay Olympia and Rizal, was launched to provide Makati residents an alternative source of basic goods.

“As I have said earlier, we are giving priority to the more vulnerable sectors who would most likely feel the brunt of the limited mobility and loss of livelihood arising from our current situation,” she said.
