LPA seen in Quezon – Pagasa

- ARLIE O. CALALO

A low pressure area (LPA) was spotted east of Quezon Province, but it still has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Friday.

In its 2 p.m. advisory, Pagasa said the LPA was spotted at 520 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, and it was continuously monitoring if it would develop into a tropical depression within the next 36 hours.

Parts of Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Bicol Region, Central and Eastern Visayas and Caraga Administrative Region will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms brought about by LPA.

Light to moderate with occasionally heavy rains will affect Lanao del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Sibugay and nearby areas, which may persist within the day.

Meanwhile, parts of Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) and Western Visayas will likewise experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to Habagat or the southwest monsoon.

But flash floods or landslides due to moderate or heavy rain showers are still possible in these areas, the weather agency said.

It said the rest of the country would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers because of localized thunderstorms.

The public and the local disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to monitor the weather condition, Pagasa said.
