Online Cinemalaya events for free
WHILE the film screenings are the highlight of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, which officially opened yesterday, there are interesting events happening on the sidelines that netizens might want to catch and experience.
Alumni of the Ricky Lee writing workshop will have their reunion, dubbed Ricky Lee 4D: Exploring Four Decades of Communal Storytelling, today at 1 p.m.
After the premieres of Gawad Alternatibo finalists in various categories, there will be talkbacks starting at 3:30 p.m.
Still up for today, Cinemalaya Retro Shorts: Women in Shorts Films and Cinemalaya Retro Shorts: The New Generation will have talkbacks with filmmakers at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
There will be back-to-back talkbacks on Cinemalaya Retro Shorts: Editors and Writers and Cinemalaya Retro Shorts: Kids at Heart on August 9, at 5:15 p.m. and 7:15pm, to be moderated by theater and film actress Sheenly Gener.
Gameplays of the various games competing in Gawad Alternatibo will be live streamed on CCP, Gawad Alternatibo, Media Arts, and Cinemalaya
Facebook pages, starting August 9 until August 14. Netizens may also go to the Gawad Alternatibo website to access the game.
“Cinemalaya Campus: Re-Imagining and Contextualizing Filmmaking” launches on August 10, and runs until August 14. There will be two sessions, at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., daily. On August 14, short films will be screened within the campus session.
Cinemalaya Retro Shorts continues its talkback on August 10, 4:30 p.m., with the theme “Roaring Silence of Sheron.”
Premiere section takes the screen starting August 10 with “Basurero” on Vimeo; followed by a talkback with director Eileen Cabiling and her cast at 7 p.m. “Nang Em” premieres on August 11, with talkback featuring director Maria Ranillo and her actors at 3:30 p.m. On the same day, “Heneral Rizal” will premiere on Vimeo, followed by a talkback with director Chuck Gutierres and his actor.
On August 13, there will be a panel discussion on Experiments During Quarantine featuring the
VLF artists and filmmakers.
Cinemalaya Tribute to director Peque Gallaga and actress Anita Linda will have talkback sessions on August 15, at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
For the Gawad Alternatibo Special screenings, included are films from the European Union and Embassy of Iran under the World Cinema section; shorts from the School of Slow Media coupled with a Human- Centered Storytelling Workshop; the QuaranTime Chronicles shorts and documentary essays from alternative media; and winning shorts from DepEd’s National Festival of TalentsSineliksik Competition.
Gawad Alternatibo closes with an awarding ceremony on August 15, at 7 p.m.
