Mindoro police post locked down

CALAPAN CITY, Mindoro Oriental: The Calapan City Police Station in Mindoro Oriental has been placed under total lockdown over seven positive cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Recently testing positive for Covid-19 were one junior officer, four police trainees, a female non-uniformed personnel (NUP) and a detainee, according to the city mayor.

Mayor Arnan Panaligan, in a follow-up post on his official social media page, said the four police trainees were undergoing the Field Training Program of the Philippine National Police and the junior officer was one of their trainors.

The female NUP was assigned at the city police station, according to Panaligan.

The inmate, the mayor said, was a 59-year-old male and detained at the Calapan City police detention center. He was hypertensive and was admitted at a local hospital for fever, cough and difficulty of breathing.

His positive test result caused the suspension of visits to other inmates.

All seven Covid- positive cases had contacts with two other trainees who were earlier found infected by the virus.

All six police personnel are now at the city temporary treatment and quarantine facility while the detainee remains at the hospital.

Police operations will be handled by the deputy provincial director for operations.

A tent will be set up outside the Calapan City Police Station to accommodate complaints and requests for police assistance.

Panaligan said the city hall complex would be placed under a limited lockdown as the city quarantine and isolation facility is inside the complex and needed to be cordoned off.

City hall offices would remain open, however.

Jogging, biking and zumba dancing in the barangay (villages) and other sporting activities are temporarily disallowed for two weeks or until August 22.

“Consider yourself and our city as under voluntary enhanced community quarantine. Being safe from Covid-19 depends on personal discipline and personal responsibility of everyone,” Panaligan’s post said.
