BULACAN CAPITOL BUILDING CLOSED

- FREDERICK SILVERIO

CITY OF MALOLOS: Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando has ordered the lockdown or one-week temporary closure of the main building of the provincial government from August 10 to 14 after the test results of three of its employees turned out positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The lockdown will give way to the disinfection of the offices in the building as well thorough contact tracing and swab testing of those who have been exposed to the infected employees in an effort to break the chain of disease transmission.

Bulacan has built its own Molecular Diagnostic Testing Center that enhances its testing capacity to curb the spread of the disease.

“This temporary closure is necessary to protect provincial government employees, as well as the general public who regularly and continuously visit the capitol offices for various services. We are resolute in our fight against Covid-19 and as our citizens remain in solidarity, I know that we shall overcome,” Fernando said.

He added that all other offices under the provincial government would continue to operate as usual. Meanwhile, employees working at the main building will be housed at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center for unhampered delivery of public services.

In Pandi, Bulacan, the local government on Sunday started the implementation of “alternating lockdowns,” as the entire town was placed on a one-day lockdown.

Mayor Enrico Roque said the one-day lockdown was meant to pave way for a townwide disinfection to contain the infectious disease as the municipality had registered four active cases as of Saturday.

He noted that the alternating lockdowns would be in place regularly in Pandi town, where they would not allow the residents from its 22 barangay (villages) to go outside if it is not necessary.

On the other hand, officials of the City of San Jose del Monte clarified that they would only implement a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from August 10 to 18 and not a total lockdown, unlike what a tabloid reported.

Mayor Arthur Robes said those who were working outside the city would have to stay near their respective workplaces or to remain at home when the strict MECQ goes into effect.

“The city government has given residents a few days to look for temporary housing near their workplaces outside the city,” the mayor stressed.

He said they would tighten Oplan Sita in all boundaries with access from the National Capital Region.

As of Saturday, the province of Bulacan, through the Provincial Health Office, had registered 1,047 active cases out of 1,699 total Covid-19 cases, with 600 recoveries and 52 deaths.
