‘Sputnik V trial in PH possible in Sept or Oct’

A Phase 3 clinical trial for Sputnik V may be held in the Philippine­s in October at the@latest@after@the@go vernment@received@ from@the@Gamaley a@Research@Institute @ documents@on@the@earlier@trials@on@the @ Russia-developed vaccine, whose published results showed promise.

In a briefing on Friday night, Kirill Dmitriev, chief executive officer of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, told@ The@Manila@ Times he hoped the country’s vaccine expert panel, led by the Science and Health department­s, would evaluate and approve his country’s findings of the Phase 1 and 2 trials so that the third could begin this month or the next.

The@government@secured@the@v accine@ trial results after the panel signed confidenti­al disclosure agreements on them. This came after the Science department said last month the committee’s approval@… as@needed@before@Gamaley a@… ould@ send its proposed trial parameters to the Food and Drug Administra­tion, which would regulate it.

Earlier on Friday, Health Undersecre­tary@Maria@Rosario@Vergeire@said@she@and@ other state executives met with Russian Embassy officials on their plans to meet with Gamaleya to discuss Sputnik V.

She also dismissed the idea that vaccine talks with Moscow and Beijing would affect the government’s plans to negotiate@for@and@secure@v accines@from@other @ countries, noting that other states were doing the same.
