Chris Dumasis' 'sacred space' of healing in Siargao

SIARGAO in it of itself is a magical place. Filled with the wonders of naJ ture, it has been often coined as a place of healing and self-care, adding to its wonder is a safe space that is frequented by both locals and tourists alike called Sacred Space. Sacred Space was founded by Chris Dumasis, a tarot reader, spirituJ al healer, angelic medium and channel of the goddess. Born and raised in Bacolod City, Chris is also a mother of two and married to a Spanish man.

It was their love for adventure that brought their family to Siargao, “My husband is the chef of Bravo restaurant in Siargao and together we managed the restaurant for the last five years. In my spare time, I will read for tourists. The setting there is majestic, spectacular and full of magic, I would read the tarot in front of the beach under the full moon. In how many places can you do that?”

Chris continues how the scenery added to the magic of what she does, “This was the kind of experience that some people were looking for during their trip to SiarJ gao and these same people would spread the word in Manila and Cebu. That’s how popularity grew as the tarot reader of SiarJ gao. And how I have a mystical space in our island home which added more magic to the experience. I would put candles, light and incense, play soft spiritual music, we would sit on the floor, barefoot, in our garden under the coconut trees and if the timing is right, under the Full Moon.”

Sacred Space, as Chris describes, “is not only the tarot but it is a path that leads you to self-love through divinaJ tion, healing, and magic. The tools I use are mostly Tarot, Reiki, Angelic HealJ ing, Channeling, and Dream interpretaJ tion. I share my knowledge, research, experience, and constant learning to help others improve their lives.”

She also debunks a common myth about what she does, “The common misconception about what I do is that it’s scary. But after they’ve done the reading, they realize that the tarot is actually an insightful and powerful tool for personal growth and transformation.”

When asked what her own personal jourJ ney was like, Chris thoughtfully responds, “My journey was long and complicated. My family was very religious and going to church was a big part of our lives. That was the only spirituality I knew then. Though I always had a curiosity for things sacred and magical. During those times, getting information about unconventional faith was not easy. I had to do a lot of research. I even lived in a monastery with Buddhist monks for three months. Can you imagine? My family was freaking out. And all just to experience and learn something different. I even became a vegetarian, now a vegan. And soon after, the tarot came into my life by fate and changed my life in a big way. It is even through the tarot that I met my husband and the father of my kids.”

At present, Chris is in Spain with her husband due to the Covid-19 pandemic but continues to provide her sessions online, “Every year we would come to Spain for a vacation. And this year, our vacation happened just before the Covid-19 pandemic. We had no choice but to stay here. Our flight got cancelled and we cannot go back to the Philippines just yet. Over here, I had to focus a lot on online readings and healing mostly through my Instagram account instead of face to face readings like in Siargao.”

“But even though it is online, I still do my usual rituals of lighting a candle, burnJ ing incense and playing spiritual music to bring in more magic to the readings. We have been on lockdown for two months and it has not been easy. But it has also given me the opportunity to grow stronger in my path. I have done a lot of self-healing, meditation and rituals. I’ve done a lot of studying to keep my mind sane and strong. And I have been sharing this in my InstaJ gram account,” she continued.

She also reflects on how much the world needs healing, especially under the present circumstances, saying, “Healing is essential more than ever, nowadays because people are seeking for answers. Most of us are spiritually sick. We work too hard, we live in congested places, we have detached ourselves from nature, we spend little time with our families, we can’t differentiate real love from a toxic relationship and the list goes on. The world we live in now is chaotic. Spirituality and healing are a sanctuary from all this chaos. A simple salt bath ritual can cleanse your energy and spirit. A thirty-minute meditation upon waking up can empower your mind and sharpen your focus. Energy healing can balance your chakras and heal your emotional and spiritual traumas. All these tools, I beJ lieve can change our lives for the better.”
