ENCHONG’S ‘AYUDA SA BAYAN’ IS SIGNIFICANT

- RONNIE CARRASCO 3RD

WHO says Kapamilya artist Enchong Dee has no “ambagsabayan?” That in quotes is the popular contentious phrase attributed to citizens whose agenda is to fault the government FOR ITS flAWS RATHER THAN HELP IT SOLVE THEM.

While not in the way Angel Locsin admirably commits herself to doing her share in society, the 31-year old actor willingly helps out the staff employed in his chain of restaurants.

Currently, Enchong co- owns four branches of a popular grilled chicken house which he set up one after the other back in 2016.

With every reason to effect layoffs due to the economic slump caused by the pandemic, Enchong chooses to maintain his workforce albeit on rotational shifts. Also, instead of completely closing them down, cashing in on heavy take-outs and deliveries is what KEEPS THE BUSINESS AflOAT.

“I care about those who work for me. They all have families and their needs as well. My mission is to provide job opportunities for Filipinos,” says Enchong who takes care of the marketing side. Proof of this is that he — believe it or not — willingly waives his regular salaries.

Meanwhile, the past weeks have seen the actor dragged into the Jennylyn Mercado versus Arnell Ignacio fray in social media. Ending up as collateral damage, Enchong was metaphorically CALLED A “fiRECRACKER” BY IGNACIO when he took the actress’ side in asserting her right to self-expression regarding the country’s socio-political condition.

In yet another social media platform, talent manager Lolit Solis had advised Jennylyn’s publicist to call the actress’ attention, even questioning — although succinctly — her “ambagsabayan,” the Angel Locsin or the Marian Rivera way, in support of the front liners in whatever form.

Back to Enchong. FYI, Mr. Ignacio and Ms. Solis, in case you’re in a search of one’s societal contributions,

the “pyrotechnic” actor’s pro-labor stance is proof enough. Minus any government “ayuda,” Enchong is — for the record — picking up the slack, so to speak.

And that entitles him the right, too, to self-expression.

GUESS WHO? It took all of eternity before a comedienne (C) COULD finally GIVE A MALE HOST (MH) his fair share of the cash prize they won as a team in a game show on TV. All thanks to C’s lady boss (LB) who served as MH’s collecting agent.

MH was almost hopeless that he could no longer extract the money from C, saying, “She wouldn’t reply to my text messages. Imagine, after all these years?”

Like a sister to MH, LB secretly tipped him off about C’s huge talent fee for joining a political candidate’s campaign trail. LB was, in fact, privy to all transactions in which C got involved.

“Hey,” LB forewarned the C, “You’ve no more excuse not to pay up, kaya ikakaltas ko na‘ yung utang mo whether you like it or not.” C sourly grinned.
