DAYS after the death of her brother, Melodia Parojinog- Malingin also died from health complications while under police custody, Philippine National Police ( PNP) chief Gen. Camilo Cascolan reported on Monday.

Former Ozamis City Councilor Ricardo Parojinog, Melodia’s

brother, passed away last September 4 while also under police custody. He succumbed to cardio- pulmonary arrest secondary to cardio- vascular disease based on initial findings.

Like him, Melodia was also accused of violation of Republic Acts 9165 and 10591.

She died under similarly lifethreatening medical conditions as her brother at the Mayor Hilarion A. Ramiro Sr. Medical Center in Ozamis City on Sunday morning, Cascolan said.

According to the PNP chief, Ozamis City police investigators said Melodia’s death was caused by cardiogenic shock secondary to intractable cardiac arrhythmia atrial fibrillation to ventricular tachycardia secondary to massive gastro intestinal bleeding secondary to uremic gastropathy, based also on findings of attending physicians.

Melodia had been under detention while awaiting trial for her drug case along with her husband Gaudencio.

On Dec. 6, 2017, the couple were arrested when police found eight kilograms of shabu (crystal meth) in their possession during a search of their house.

The remains of Ricardo has been turned over to his family after examination by PNP forensic examiners.

According to Col. Danildo Tumanda, Misamis Occidental provincial director, the family of Ricardo did not request an autopsy of his body, “knowing fully well the health condition of the deceased.”

Cascolan assured continued investigation of the deaths of Ricardo and Melodia.

“At any rate, Misamis Occidental PPO ( Provincial Police Office) will proceed with its investigation,” he said in a news briefing.
