KAPAMILYA STARS DESCEND ON TV5

- THE T-ZONE TESSA MAURICIO -ARRIOLA

JUST like many industries, show business is learning to live with the Covid19 pandemic and getting back on its feet. From the whirl of announcements this week coming from networks, producers and the artist themselves, it looks like the public is in for good entertainment as we all earnestly await a vaccine.

So let’s get started with what you couch potatoes need to know.

Kapamilya stars descend on TV5

Some of the biggest stars of ABSCBN have finally come out of quarantine with the decision to move on with their respective careers. Among them are the likes of Piolo Pascual, Korina Sanchez, Maja Salvador, Sue Ramirez, Dimples Romana, Alex Gonzaga and Catriona Gray.

And it’s all thanks to former congressman Albee Benitez who has magnanimously decided to go full blast with his production company Brightlight Productions, which erstwhile dabbled in moviemaking.

Says the billionaire businessman — who very much enjoys witnessing the creative process of bringing a story to both the big and small screens — he is eager to help the industry where he has many good friends to get back on its feet again. And by the way, don’t start thinking Cong. Albee intends to build his own stable of stars because he is very earnest in lending a helping hand to rectify partisan systems in showbiz as a whole in reaching its full potential.

“It’s time that all of us should work together,” TV5’ s newest blocktime producer declared on Zoom this week. “Right now, I don’t think there should be a network war so that stars will have the flexibility to take on work where it is available. I believe this should be the landscape moving forward.”

Next week, the T-Zone will have the opportunity to sit down with Cong. Albee to pick his whiz of a business mind on what sure fire direction the industry should take given the heavy blow it took over the last months. But for now here’s the list of shows he’s all set to premiere on TV5.

“Sunday Noontime Live,” directed by Star Magic founder Johnny Manahan, it’s a weekly variety show premiering on October 18 at 12 noon. Leading the glittering roster of hosts are Piolo Pascual and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray together with Maja Salvador, Donny Pangilinan and Jake Ejercito.

“I Got You,” directed by Dan Villegas, is a romance drama series, featuring Beauty Gonzales, Jane Oineza, and RK Bagatsing, also set to premiere tomorrow at 2 p.m.; as is “Sunday Kada,” a comedy show directed by Edgar Mortiz featuring Jayson Gainza,

Ritz Azul, Wacky Kiray, Miles Ocampo, Daniel Matsunaga, Jerome Ponce, Josh Colet, Sunshine Garcia, Jhen Maloles, and Badji Mortiz, at 3 p.m.

Come Monday, “Lunch Out Loud,” a noon-time variety show featuring Billy Crawford, Alex Gonzaga, Wacky Kiray, K Brosas, Bayani Agbayani, KC Montero and Macoy Dubs, begins airing weekdays at noon.

Finally, October 24 will see two more brand new shows via “Rated Korina,” a news magazine and lifestyle show hosted by veteran broadcaster Korina Sanchez- Roxas, at 4 p. m.; and “Oh My Dad,” a wholesome family sitcom helmed by Director

Jeffrey Jeturian and starring Ian Veneracion, Dimples Romana, Sue Ramirez, Louise Abuel and Adrian Lindayag, at 5 p.m.

With the avalanche of erstwhile ABS-CBN on TV5, the Kapamilya Network has no intentions of slowing down with its continued release of original teleseryes to show across its cable TV channels, streaming platforms and week-old presence on free TV channel A2Z 11 (formerly Zoe TV).

Just before the weekend, the network introduced a new TV barkada bringing together hot young lookers Tony Labrusca, Barbie Imperial, Kiko Estrada, Michelle Vito, Yves Flores and Heaven Peralejo. This group of six has been given the huge opportunity to headline their very own drama series titled “BagongUmaga,” which premieres on Oct. 26.

Speaking from their locked-in taping, these girls and boys were filled with gratitude that they are among the not so many artists who have been given full- time projects amid the pandemic as well as ABS-CBN’s loss a franchise since the summer.

“It isn’t very easy to work on a teleserye these days because for a whole stretch you don’t get to go home. Of course I miss my family but overall I just feel very fortunate to be able to work at this time and to be taken care of by ABS-CBN on set with all the restrictions we need to follow,” said Labrusca on behalf of the cast. Meanwhile, “BagongUmaga” promises to be an inspirational series for the youth where each character’s intertwined stories will yield valuable life lessons given all the challenges real life has thrown audiences everywhere.

Joining the teens in the cast are premier actors Sunshine Cruz, Criz Martinez, Peewee O Hara, Glydel Mercado and Rio Locsin. Produced by the same team behind “NangNgumitiAngLangit" and “PamilyaKo,” under Rizza Ebriega, “BagongUmaga” will air weekdays at 2:30 p.m. over A2Z channel 11, Kapamilya Channel and Kapamilya Online Live.

Now over a GMA-7, the network excitedly announced on Friday that it is all set to mount the country’s very first virtual reality concert, headlined of course by its most prized gem, Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards.

Tickets to the December 8 production started selling over the weekend, with Alden’s fans all excited to set their eyes and engage with their idol over “Alden’s Reality (AR).”

In a statement sent to The ManilaTimesEntertainment, GMA promises for the concert to be “a virtual date like no other” by combining “cutting- edge technology and performances to produce a full-length concert and online interaction.”

The statement continues, “Alden will take concertgoers to a journey that celebrates his 10 colorful years in the entertainment industry. From heartfelt songs to adrenaline-filled dance numbers, Alden is sure to indulge everyone across the globe in his first ever virtual concert. A surprise treat also awaits his fans.”

VIP packages bought over www. gmanetwork.com/synergy include one general admission ticket plus one exclusive VR device to the reality show. While regular ticket holders will see the entire show with their code, those with VR devices are meant to “take the concertgoer to another level enjoyment” come the big night. Let’s wait and see for now what all of this will come to, but all the same, congratulations Alden for another major project.
