SNAP tops WESM list of compliant hydro plants

BOKOD, Benguet: Three hydroelect­ric power plants have received top recognitio­n as compliant hydro generators during the recent Wholesale Electricit­y Spot Market (WESM) Compliance Officer Summit.

Ambuklao hydro led 12 topped its compliance ratings in participat­ing hydropower generators April for the cool-dry season that ran in the country with a compliance from Dec. 26, 2019 to Feb. 25, 2020 rating of 95.55 percent from June and in July for the hot-dry season 26, 2019 to June 25, 2020. A nonstock, nonprofit corporatio­n, PEMC was incorporat­ed in 2003 upon the initiative of the Department of Energy with representa­tives from various sectors of the electric power industry. It serves as the autonomous group of market operators and the governing body of the WESM for over 10 years.

The recent award was received virtually by SNAP‘ s WESM Compliance Officer (WCO) Shara Camille Landicho. SNAP›s WESM compliance work involves the WCO Trading Group headed by Christian Mark Tarayao, SNAP-Benguet operations led by Edmund Limpayos, and SNAPMagat operations headed by Edgardo Bundalian.

PEMC also confers rating citations to generation companies that have an exemplary compliance record with WESM‘ s laws and manuals such as the must offer rule or MOR, rule on nomination of projected outputs or loading levels, and real- time dispatch schedule.

The summit is an annual event held by PEMC to provide updates and new guidelines on market compliance. It recognizes the electric power industry participan­ts‘ efforts in fostering a culture of compliance and integrity with the WESM rules and manuals. This year’s summit was held on September 25.
