Cebu fire victims get Bong Go aid
SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has sent assistance to fire victims in two barangay (villages) in Mandaue City, Cebu as he also continued to give emergency aid to flash flood victims in Lucena City, Quezon.
Under strict health protocols, the senator’s team distributed meals, medicines, financial assistance, food packs, face masks and face shields to 73 families, comprising 283 individuals from Barangay Paknaan and Baraangay Labogon on Friday, October 16.
In a message to the victims of the October 9 fire, Go reminded them to regularly wash hands and not leave the house unless necessary.
Go’s team also gave away bicycles to select recipients to help them in their daily commute to work amid limited public transport options because of community quarantine measures.
He told the fire victims that once the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine is considered safe, ready and available, the government will prioritize and ensure access for the poor and the vulnerable sectors.
Representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) were also present during the distribution of aid to provide additional financial assistance to the victims.
Personnel from the Department of Trade and Industry and National Housing Authority were there too to assess and validate possible beneficiaries of livelihood and housing assistance, respectively.
“The President and I will continue to provide service to you because for us, the service to people is also a service to God,” Go said.
He continued to bring emergency aid to Lucena City residents, who were affected by a flash flood.
Carried out by the senator’s team, about 1,000 beneficiaries were given aid on October 15.
On October 16, 1,000 more flash flood victims were given meals, food packs, face masks and face shields.
Go earlier distributed assistance to 150 flash flood victims on October 13.
He gave away bicycles to select recipients for their commute to work and tablets also to select recipients for their children to use while adapting to blended learning implemented in schools.
Some DSWD personnel were also present during the distribution and provided financial aid and food packs to the flash flood victims.
The senator encouraged Lucena City residents to visit the nearest Malasakit Center located in the Quezon Medical Center for medical and financial assistance.
