Maynilad sets P969-M sewer project
MAYNILAD Water Services Inc. recently unveiled its P969.14-million sewerage rehabilitation project that forms part of the clean-up activities in Manila.
Dubbed the Central Manila Sewerage System (CMSS) Rehabilitation Project, this involves the upgrade of approximately 9,600 linear meters of sewer lines within 30 barangays in parts of Sta. Cruz and Malate areas.
“The project is intended to ensure the sewerage system’s continued reliability, and to accommodate a larger volume of wastewater generated by the increasing number of households and establishments in the area,” Maynilad said in a statement.
The project, targeted for completion in June 2021, will help in sustaining sewerage coverage expansion in the West Zone concession area, ultimately helping to reduce pollution load in Manila Bay.
“To date, we have already invested more than P41 billion for the improvement and expansion of the wastewater infrastructure, including our ongoing construction of new sewage treatment plants in Valenzuela, Las Piñas, and Cupang and Tunasan in Muntinlupa,” Maynilad President and Chief Executive Officer Ramoncito Fernandez said.
According to Maynilad, the rehabilitation project supports the clean-up activities in Manila, the priority area of the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
It is part of Maynilad’s longterm wastewater management program, which seeks to protect community health and the environment through the proper treatment of effluents, in compliance with the continuing Supreme Court mandamus to clean up, rehabilitate and preserve Manila Bay.
For his part, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso assured Maynilad of the city government’s full support for the rehab project and appealed for Manila residents’ understanding on its possible impact on traffic conditions.
“S a mg aka ba ba yank on an and ito, n gay on, an g mg aanak nat inang m aka kat ikimngginh aw as ah in a ha rap( To our constituents in Manila, I am appealing for your understanding in this project. Although this will entail sacrifice on our part, the future generations of our city will benefit from this initiative in the long run),” he said.
