Public must not let its guard down – Go

- BERNADETTE E. TAMAYO

SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go has called on the public to keep following health protocols despite the rollout of vaccines for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Go made the appeal as the country’s Covid immunization effort accelerated with the arrival of more AstraZeneca vaccines.

He said on Saturday that 38,400 more doses of AstraZeneca’s AZD1222 from the Covax Facility were scheduled to arrive on Sunday.

Go and President Rodrigo Duterte witnessed the turnover ceremony for the initial batch of AZD1222 on March 4.

“This was the balance of the first batch of 487,200 doses of [AstraZeneca] vaccines from the Covax Facility,” he said in Filipino.

He thanked concerned government agencies and the country’s international partners for facilitating the delivery of the vaccines.

Go stressed the importance of prioritizing frontliners for the vaccines, adding that they would now have more choices with the arrival of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Health said the frontliners were being prioritized because they are the most exposed to Covid-19.

“Ang ating maayos na vaccine rollout ang tanging susi at solusyon upang tuluyang malampasan ang pandemyang hinaharap natin (Our efficient rollout of vaccine will be the sole key and solution to overcome the pandemic that we were facing),” he added.

He asked the people to put their trust on the vaccines and not to get complacent until the country achieves herd immunity.

Go said the government must continue building the people’s confidence in the vaccines and allay their fears, while remaining vigilant against an unseen enemy.
