BONG GO PROVIDES AID TO VICTIMS OF ‘AURING’

- JAVIER JOE ISMAEL

THE Office of Senator Christopher Lawrence“Bong” Go on Friday, March 5, provided assistance to 195 Typhoon Auring victims in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.

The senator’s team provided meals, food packs, medicine, masks, and face shields to the beneficiaries who were severely hit by the massive flooding caused by the heavy rains.

The beneficiaries, also part of the small and medium-scale enterprises sector, were validated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The distribution activity, held at Shacene Pension House, was carried out in strict compliance with the health and safety protocols against Covid-19.

This relief outreach is also a continuation of the relief efforts provided by the senator when he first visited the city together with President Rodrigo Duterte on February 23.

The President and Go did an aerial inspection of the city and provided initial relief assistance to Typhoon Auring victims after a situation briefing with local officials.

“Sana ay nasa mabuti kayong kalagayan. Alam kong mahirap ang pinagdadaanan ninyo ngayon dahil bukod sa naapektuhan kayo dahil sa bagyo, may pandemya pa tayong kinakaharap. Ngunit magtulungan lang tayo dahil alam kong malalampasan din natin ito (I hope you are all in good condition. I know that you are in a difficult situation because aside from being affected by the typhoon, we are also in a pandemic. But, let us continue helping each other and I know that we will overcome this),” Go said in a video call.

Selected beneficiaries were also given new pairs of shoes. Another beneficiary was provided with a bicycle, an alternative and convenient mode of transportation. A selected recipient was also given a computer tablet for his child’s use in studying at home under the blended learning approach.

As chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, he reminded them to take the necessary precautions against Covid-19 and to strengthen their immune system as protection for themselves and their loved ones.

He advised beneficiaries to use the masks and face shield, observe social distancing and wash their hands frequently.

The senator vowed that as the government accelerates its vaccine rollout, they will ensure priority access of vaccines to poor and vulnerable sectors after the frontliners.

To those who require urgent medical attention, Go reminded residents that they may conveniently apply for medical assistance from the government at the nearby Malasakit Centers at the Butuan Medical Center in Butuan City and Caraga Regional Hospital in Surigao City.
