Billy Crawford sees much progress in Philippine entertainment

- MJ MARFORI

IT may be slow, but we’ve made good progress. That’s what Billy Crawford has to say about showbiz at the moment after so many changes, besides the pandemic, unfolded from last year to present. Billy was one of the first ABS-CBN artists to join independent producers like Viva and Brighlight after his longtime studio lost its free-to-air franchise. The in-demand host of “The Wall Philippines” and “Lunch Out Loud” delved deeper on his experience on the changing landscape of Filipino TV viewing.

Since October last year, Daddy Bils, as he is fondly called in the biz, has been helping out some lucky audience in his noontime show, something different from what we used to see him do pre-pandemic.

Billy elaborates, “Naramdaman din ng audience natin the people who are loyal and habitually watching a certain network... It was hard to break. So ngayon, na-gets na ng mga tao and someone said that I’m really excited for all of the shows that are coming to TV5, it seems like pinaghahandaan talaga nila. That gives us the boost and the motivation to do better because we are capable of producing content and we are capable of making some of the people happy. That is why we are here and there is a reason why that show is still there.”

“Lunch Out Loud” is gaining fans with their unique and good vibes segments such as H.O.P.E., Sagot Mo Sagot Ko, LOL Drag Queendom and so much more.

Billy takes pride in his team’s hard work, 80 to 90 percent of which, came with him from his last shows in ABSCBN.

“Sabi nga namin we’re all in this together to make it work sama sama na talaga tinodo na namin.”

Every month, Brightlight Productions decided to play ‘Best Of’ episodes of the show and fans quickly noticed and got worried for “Lunch Out Loud’s” longevity. However, word is, it will be here for quite sometime because of the manageable costs and growing audience.

“So nakakataba talaga ng puso when people are actually convinced at hindi sa pag convert. Iyon kasi pinag-aawayan ng tao na hindi ako mag-convert ever but there is a compromising

experience and why don’t we let this industry grow again and be interested sa lahat ng programa.”

That is the trend that Billy is seeing. He noticed that from people who questioned his sudden acceptance for projects elsewhere, now, the fans are starting to appreciate him as Daddy Bils and the new form of good energy they are sharing to the audience.

Billy recently opened up about his family’s supposed plans for migration last ECQ which thankfully did not transpire because of the new shows given to him. This weekend, another blessing comes to Billy as “The Wall Philip
