The raid, the military said, also thwarted the rebel’s plan of staging large-scale attacks on private construction companies, civilian targets and military bases to celebrate the 48th anniversary of the National Democratic Front on April 24.

A statement released by the army’s public affairs division said the elements of the Army’s elite First Special Forces Battalion were dispatched deep into the jungles of Kalatungan Mountain Range in Valencia City, Bukidnon after receiving reports of the massing of NPA rebel forces in the area.

Lt. Col. Vercisio San Jose Jr., comMANDING OFfiCER OF THE SPECIAL FORCES, said the operatives encountered about 50 heavily armed NPA rebels of the sub-regional command of the North Central Mindanao Regional CommitTEE RESULTING IN A 30-MINUTE GUN fiGHT.

San Jose said an “amazon” was killed while several NPA rebels were wounded as indicated by the trail of blood along the rebel’s withdrawal routes.

The military recovered one highpowered firearm, a vast cache of ammunition, improvised explosive devices and documents showing plans to overthrow the government and attack private companies and civilians.

San Jose said the body of the female rebel was turned over to her parents in the village of Lilingayon in Valencia City, Bukidnon.

San Jose did not release the name of the fatality although the parents admitted their daughter wanted to surrender long time ago to tend to their children but her husband, also an NPA rebel, refused to yield.
