CHEd OKs first Mindoro Oriental state university
MINDORO Oriental will now have its first state university, the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) announced on Wednesday.
CHEd Chairman Prospero de Vera 3rd said the former Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology (Minscat) has been converted to Mindoro State University (Minsu) following its compliance with all requirements.
“Minscat successfully passed through a series of rigorous evaluations and assessments conducted by CHEd until it has fully complied with the criteria for conversion in the areas of faculty qualification, libraries and laboratories, research capability, linkages and extension services, accreditation of its degree programs and other academic policies, systems and procedures,” de Vera said in a statement.
Minsu, with campuses in the Municipalities of Victoria, Calapan and Bongabong, is the first state college in Mindoro to become a state university.
The incumbent president of the then Minscat, Dr. Levy Arago, is now the first president of the university.
“This long sought-after conversion is the institution’s greatest stronghold to respond to the clamor of Mindoreños particularly the poor but deserving ones for the expanded program offerings at a reduced cost,” Arago said in a statement.
