TRANSLATING SB 19’s CONFIDENCE TO FASHION

- BY NIKA ROQUE

P-PoP boyband SB19 has definitely come a long way since their 2018 debut. With a string of phenomenal hit singles and full-length album, sold out venues for their performances before the pandemic, social media followers in the millions and counting, and their historic nomination as the first Filipino act to be nominated for a Billboard Music Awards (Top Social Artist category), there can be no doubt that group members Pablo (previously known as Sejun), Stell, Josh, Justin, and Ken have reached superstar status.

For doubters that remain if at all any, another solid proof would be the success of their limited-edition fashion collaboration with noted designer Chynna Mamawal, which sold faster than their rise to the top via wearcasa.co. Be it here or the international arena, only major STARS find THEMSELVES INSPIRING A full fashion collection.

Ever hands on and devoted to their brand, however, the grateful and humble boys were only too happy to collaborate with Mamawal in designing different fashion pieces THAT reflect WHO THEY ARE.

According to Stell, just the color palette of the collection alone, “from light, to dark, to bolder” speaks of how their music has grown to a more defined and confident SOUND TODAY.

Using the group’s latest hit single, “What?” as the starting point of their design process, he elaborated, “Tulad ng What?, yung [single] namin ngayon, ito ay yung sino kami as a whole ngayon — ito yung gusto namin ipakita sa inyo. And as the song’s message goes, sana matanggap niyo kami, and [through that,] matanggap niyo rin yung sarili niyo.”

Translating the single into fashion, SB19 x Chynna Mamawal VERY fittingly EMERGED AS A DISTINCT streetwear collection that exudes confidence, NO MATTER HOW youthful. Comprised of unisex wearable sweats and coordinates only a hundred pieces were produced by Mamawal and her team for each premium item, which are practically considered collector’s items already.

Overwhelmed by the clamor for their merchandise, the boys cannot be happier to tell their fans that a significant PORTION OF THE MONEY they spent will go toward funding the ever-vital personal protective equipment for medical frontliners.

Moreover, the boys also take pride in those who bought their pieces that whenever they wear them, they will NOT ONLY FEEL confident BUT AT THE same time, literally raise the Philippine flag, which is prominently displayed on every item.
