EU-Asean holds dialogue on green tech and innovation mapping
THE Department of Science and Technology (dost) through the Office of the Assistant Secretary for International Cooperation hosted the third series of the euasean greentech and Innovation Mapping Dialogue: Green Technologies for Plastic Value Chain Management Webinar Series last April 29 with the European Commission Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD). The webinar is supported by the Enhanced Regional EU-Asean Dialogue Instrument (E-READI) and the Asean Secretariat.
The webinar was graced by the Philippine National Chairperson of the Asean Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) and dost Undersecretary for Research and Development Dr. Rowena Cristina Guevara, Malaysia National COSTI Chairperson and Secretary General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Science and Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Datuk Ir. Dr. Siti Hamisah Binti Tapsir, and Asean Desk Officer from the European Commission DG RTD Pierrick Fillon- Ashida.
The webinar series 3 specifically focused on biodegradable polymer technologies and featured leading experts who are involved in the development of state-ofthe-art technologies to produce biodegradable and bio-based plastics. It highlighted in particular one EU-Horizon-2020-funded project on the Contributions of Biotechnology to a Sustainable Plastic Industry: “P4SB–From Plastic waste to Plastic value using Pseudomonas putida Synthetic Biology” and also presented examples of EU, Indian and Asean (Philippines and Thailand) initiatives, technologies and bio- based products. The webinar series also provided the platform to discuss opportunities in utilizing green technologies in addressing plastic waste pollution.
The webinar was attended by representatives and participants from Asean Member States and the European Commission DG RTD with over 700 registered attendees in Zoom and more than 2000 live viewed on Facebook.
The next webinar series is tentatively scheduled on May 27 and it will focus on Plastic Wastes Consolidation and Recycling Approaches.
