ELAINE Concepcio Alberto launched her day spa, Gravitas Med Spa, in March 2020 ² three days before the pandemic hit the world. Any other business owner would have crumbled but for the ever optimistic Elaine, she saw it as an opportunity to further improve her spa. And her optimism paid off. Her day spa located in the luxurious Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills was recently named one of the “most fun things to do in Beverly Hills” by a popular international publication and is fast becoming a celebrity favorite.

Elaine was born and raised in the Philippines but moved to the United States in 1993.

“After I graduated with a Nursing Degree, I thought I would be spending the rest of my career in the Philippines but God had a different plan for me and my family,” Elaine shared.

Elaine, who is the eldest of six children, has always been her mother’s partner in raising her six siblings after her father passed away when she was still in high school.

Moving to the US gave her the opportunity to provide for her family. She said, “I had to endure being away from my family for the first time, to be able to support them back home. It taught me how to be independent and understand different cultures and values outside of the Philippines. My first job was in Greenwood, Mississippi. This is where I met other Filipino nurses who became my lifelong friends. It was these friends who helped ease homesickness. This is also the place where I met my husband and after we got married, we moved to California.”

In California, Elaine became a nurse for the famed Cedars Sinai Medical Center and upon retiring, she started Gravitas Beauty and Wellness with her eldest daughter.

“My daughter and I came up with the idea of combining both our passions and skills in beauty and wellness to empower anyone who has the desire to bring out the best version of themselves. With my background as a nurse and my daughter’s developing skills as a prospective Doctor of Physical Therapy, we will be providing a variety of services and resources that will help individuals look and feel their best selves inside and out,” Elaine told Thought Junkie.

The vision for Gravitas was to create a “holistic, nurturing environment for their clientele.” Elaine, who had no idea that she would start a Med Spa after retirement, was inspired by this quote which she chanced upon when she asked God for guidance on what to do post-retirement.

“Your story is not over. It’s not too late to change the story you’ll tell one day. Regardless of what you have done (or haven’t done), your future is unwritten. You have more victories to win, more friends to meet, more of a difference to make, more of God’s goodness to experience.”

This quote fueled her determination to continue pursuing her business despite the many challenges brought about by the pandemic saying, “It was definitely easier to give up but giving up was not an option for us knowing that God has led us this far and that He will help us get through these tough times.”

And that He did, at present, Gravitas Med Spa is known for its Megalux Treatment.

“It’s a one-of-a-kind experience and you get excellent results after just one treatment. This is the newest skincare treatment that I created combining the most effective products and procedures in the market today. This unique treatment is a 2-hour procedure that is non-invasive and has no downtime. The treatment is guaranteed to take extra years off your age and will keep you glowing and looking younger,” Elaine enthused.
