Centino named new Army chief
PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Maj. Gen. Andres Centino as chief of the Philippine Army, Malacañang confirmed on Sunday.
“We are confident Major General of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Centino will continue the while building the gains to initiatives to professionalize and serve our people and secure our modernize the principal branch land,” Palace spokesman Harry Roque Jr. said.
Centino will replace Lt. Gen. Jose Faustino Jr. who was named acting Army chief in February.
A member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Maringal Class of 1988, Centino served as commander of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division in Northern Mindanao.
He also previously served as AFP chief deputy of staff for operations.
Faustino was appointed special assistant to the AFP chief on peace and development, according to AFP chief-of-staff Gen. Cirilito Sobejana.
AFP spokesperson Maj. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said Faustino has a proven capacity for peace and development that makes him qualified for the post created for him.
“He [Faustino] will closely supervise the programs, activities and projects of the AFP Peace and Development Office, especially on matters pertaining to the normalization process of the Comprehensive Agreement of the Bangsamoro, particularly in ensuring the decommissioning of firearms of former Moro Islamic Liberation Front combatants remains on schedule,” Arevalo said.
