BOHOLANONS RECEIVE AID FROM BONG GO

- JAVIER JOE ISMAEL

SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Monday, October 25, sent his outreach team to provide assistance to thousands of residents in Jagna, Anda, and Panglao in Bohol as part of his commitment to helping poor communities nationwide amid the pandemic.

In his video message during the distribution events organized at Jagna Municipal Gymnasium, Anda Public Beach, and Panglao Cultural Center, Go appealed to the local leaders to immediately inoculate eligible residents in accordance with the vaccination guidelines.

He then asked the public to cooperate and stressed that their participation in the national inoculation program will help boost vaccine confidence in their communities.

“Tuluy-tuloy po ang vaccine rollout natin. Pakiusap lang ho namin ni Pangulong [Rodrigo] Duterte, ‘pag nasa priority list na ho kayo magpabakuna na ho kayo. Libre naman po ito mga kababayan ko, para po ito sa kapakanan ng bawat Pilipino (Our vaccine rollout will continue. President Duterte and I are appealing to those in the priority list to have themselves vaccinated. This is free for the welfare of every Filipino),” Go appealed.

Go then reaffirmed that the Duterte administration remains determined to balance the country’s health interests and economic recovery.

Go’s personnel grouped the 3,763 beneficiaries into smaller batches and handed out essentials, such as meals, masks, face shields and vitamins while necessary health and safety protocols were observed.

They also handed out computer tablets and new pairs of shoes to selected beneficiaries, as well as bicycles for easier travel to work or get daily essentials.

As part of the government’s efforts to support more struggling sectors adversely affected by the national health crisis, several agencies extended support and aid.

A team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development gave financial assistance to each struggling resident through their Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.

Meanwhile, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority conducted onsite assessments to determine qualified individuals for their respective livelihood and scholarship programs.

As chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go offered further assistance to those with health concerns.

He informed them that there are medical assistance programs conveniently accessible through the Malasakit Centers located at Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City and Don Emilio Del Valle Memorial Hospital in Ubay.

The center is a one-stop shop that is designed to help particularly poor and indigent patients reduce their hospital expenses to the lowest amount possible.

To further promote economic growth and create more opportunities for each municipality, the vice chairman of Senate Committee on Finance supported the construction of multipurpose buildings in Anda, construction of an evacuation center in Panglao, and the construction of a municipal fish port in Jagna.

On October 22, Go’s outreach team conducted similar distribution activities for more residents in Buenavista, Getafe, Inabanga, and Clarin.
