Muntinlupa opens vax preregistration for kids aged 5-11
THE Muntinlupa local government unit (LGU) announced the preregistration of minors aged 5 to 11 years old for Covid-19 vaccination.
Mayor Jaime Fresnedi urged parents and guardians to register their children to the Muntinlupa City Covid-19 Vaccination program as protection from the adverse effects of the virus.
Fresnedi said the preregistration aimed to create a database while the LGU awaited final guidelines from the Department of Health (DoH).
Muntinlupa residents under the 5 to 11 age group could be preregistered online through the city’s Covid-19 vaccination registration system https://vaccine.muntinlupacity.gov.ph/muncovac/.
The public may choose the category “Pediatric A3 (aged 5 to 11 years)” for those with comorbidities and the category “Pediatric/Rest of the Pediatric Population (aged 5 to 11 years)” for children without comorbidities.
On December 23, the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved emergency use authorization for Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine for aged 5 to 11 years.
Dr. Eric Domingo, former FDA director general, made the announcement during a Laging Handa briefing, noting Pfizer’s vaccine had a 90.7-percent efficacy rate for the age group.
Earlier, DoH clarified that the Covid vaccination for 5- to 11-yearolds had not yet started.
“Preparations are still underway for the rollout of Covid-19 vaccines for this age group. The National Covid-19 Vaccination Operations Center will announce the exact start date as soon as Covid-19 vaccines suitable for ages 5 to 11 and its appropriate syringes become available,” DoH noted.
For the 12 to 17 age group, the LGU inoculated at least 26,020 minors as of January 5. This translated to 50 percent of the age group’s target population. There were 44,681 registered pediatric residents in the local Covid vaccination registration system.
