DoST holds innovation workshop
THE Department of Science and Technology (DoST) Region 1 (Ilocos Region) is set to pilot the implementation of the Innovation, Science and Technology for Accelerating Regional Technology-Based Development (iStart) program in Pangasinan.
The DoST said the program aims to support agri-based, manufacturing and service sectors in the province.
During the two-day consultation meeting and workshop with six municipalities of Pangasinan last December, DoST representatives provided participants with an overview of the project implementation to push forward development in each municipality.
They also discussed creating a technology-based development and communication plan and formulating science, technology and innovation-based policies for various industries.
DoST Region 1 consultant Dr. Lily Ann Lando presented the three parts of crafting a communication plan: stakeholder mapping, crafting messages and communication action plan.
She also showed a framework for planning the local government units’ (LGUs) comprehensive development plan.
DoST Region 1 Regional Director Dr. Armando Ganal emphasized the need for intensive coordination and cooperation of the LGUs for the implementation of iStart.
With this, Ganal expressed his gratitude for the active participation of the involved LGUs for the future success of the program.
He also highlighted the full commitment of the DoST iStart team to support and provide necessary science and technology assistance and intervention to the municipalities.
