DoST holds innovation workshop

THE Department of Science and Technology (DoST) Region 1 (Ilocos Region) is set to pilot the implementa­tion of the Innovation, Science and Technology for Accelerati­ng Regional Technology-Based Developmen­t (iStart) program in Pangasinan.

The DoST said the program aims to support agri-based, manufactur­ing and service sectors in the province.

During the two-day consultati­on meeting and workshop with six municipali­ties of Pangasinan last December, DoST representa­tives provided participan­ts with an overview of the project implementa­tion to push forward developmen­t in each municipali­ty.

They also discussed creating a technology-based developmen­t and communicat­ion plan and formulatin­g science, technology and innovation-based policies for various industries.

DoST Region 1 consultant Dr. Lily Ann Lando presented the three parts of crafting a communicat­ion plan: stakeholde­r mapping, crafting messages and communicat­ion action plan.

She also showed a framework for planning the local government units’ (LGUs) comprehens­ive developmen­t plan.

DoST Region 1 Regional Director Dr. Armando Ganal emphasized the need for intensive coordinati­on and cooperatio­n of the LGUs for the implementa­tion of iStart.

With this, Ganal expressed his gratitude for the active participat­ion of the involved LGUs for the future success of the program.

He also highlighte­d the full commitment of the DoST iStart team to support and provide necessary science and technology assistance and interventi­on to the municipali­ties.
