THE MAN Automotive Concessionaires Corp., more known as MACC, has partnered with VW Truck and Bus based in Brazil, which will pave the way for the commercial vehicles under the brand to be marketed in the Philippines and Asia.

Roberto Cortes, president and chief executive officer of Volkswagen Truck and Bus, said his company’s partnership with MACC also marks the truck and bus brand’s entry into Asia. Also, MACC will also assemble the trucks and buses under the VW brand in the Philippines.

“We are going to the Philippines to once again make history. The partnership that we set up with MACC, a very experienced company in the Philippine industry, is a key milestone in our internalization thrust. In its four decades of operation and with a huge potential to expand it to Asian region, we truly believe that with the strong background that MACC has, each team will do a superb service for our customers in the Philippines and will deliver a sustainable service for us,” Cortes said.

He added that it is the first time in the company’s 40-year history that it is entering the Asian market. The company was born internationally in 1981, exporting in its first year to Chile, Paraguay and Mexico. Since then, VW Truck and Bus have exported over 160,000 vehicles to more than 30 countries in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

VW Truck and Bus has been constantly evolving during the years, using state-of-the-art technology and the innovative and collaborative concept of Modular Consortium.

“This enables us to produce a complete line of vehicles, tailormade to the needs of the customer from light to heavy trucks and buses, capable of meeting the most varied applications and requirements of our markets,” the company said.

For its part, MACC ecstatic over the addition of VW line Categories 3 and 4 to the existing Category 5 trucks. It will be bringing in various models in different weight classes ranging from 9 tons to 31 tons, in 4x2, 4x4, 6x4, 8x2 and 8x4 executions.

These are powered by popular Cummins and MAN engines with efficient common rail fuel management systems. They are Euro 5 compliant with exhaust gas recirculation and selective catalytic reduction emission technology. They will come in 6-speed, 9-speed and 16-speed transmissions.

MACC said comfort and safety

were top-of-mind in the design of the VW commercial vehicles. They have the conveniences of powered door locks, powered windows and side mirrors, ergonomic seats and seating arrangement.

“As such we would be able to serve a much larger market in the truck and bus segment with different applications, from closed vans, wing-vans, refrigerated vans, drop-sides, flat beds, people transport food and beverage transport, to boom trucks, tipper trucks, cement mixers, including specialty purpose vehicles,” MACC stated.
