Julius Babao to make TV5 debut tonight

- CHRISTINA ALPAD

SEASONED news anchor and journalist Julius Babao marks his first official work day today as a Kapatid — that is, a TV5 prized talent

— as he joins the daily news program, “Frontline Pilipinas.”

A broadcast personality for over three decades, Babao steps into the frontlines as a beteranong journo and lingkod bayan to deliver the day’s top stories with fellow veteran anchor Cheryl Cosim. Together they will present the most pressing issues on politics, the economy, welfare, and the Covid-19 crisis.

“We will have a complementary newscast because Cheryl and I go a long way back. We’ve been good friends for many years and so I think we’ll complement each other,” Babao answered when asked in a virtual media conference what Fronline Pilipinas viewers could look forward to with his arrival.

“May mga portions na mas magiging light yung banter, especially pag medyo light ang news, mas makakapag banter kami ni Cheryl tungkol

doon. Hindi tayo magiging masyadong stiff, we will be more relaxed [but still] with in-depth take on the day’s news,” he added.

Babao started his journalistic career with GMA 7’s DZBB in 1990 before moving to ABS-CBN in 1993 as a reporter for its flagship newscast. He later anchored the station’s morning show with his wife Christine Bersola in 1996 and then filled co-anchor duties in various primetime, evening and weekend newscasts before finally wrapping-up his 28-year stint with the Kapamilya Network last year.

Aside from anchoring Frontline Pilipinas, Babao seeks to continue

his life mission of service to Filipinos.

He will extend assistance to select and deserving small and medium scale enterprise owners as well as underground economy-reliant Filipinos even as the country navigates the economic and social challenges ahead.

“Sobrang saya ko and excited. I am looking forward to what’s going to happen. Besides the newscast and doing reports for TV5, hindi ko pa alam kung ano ang naghihintay

sa akin dito. But I am sure, it will be something worthwhile and that I will be able to maximize my capabilities not just as a reporter, a news reader, but basically a public servant,” he finally said.

“Frontline Pilipinas” airs every 5:30 p.m., live on TV5 and via livestream at News5 Facebook and YouTube pages.
